Operation Barbarossa, the 1941 German Invasion of the Soviet Union, Presented the battle hardened German Army with a surprise. While tactically proficient, they were unprepared for the volume of small arms fire that Soviet Infantry could deliver from their Svt Model Rifles.
By capturing Soviet Rifles, the German Army was able to reverse-engineer and produce a strong rifle capable of mass production.
This rifle fired 7.92x57mm Mauser Ammunition in 10 round magazines put into production in October 1943, over 400,000 Rifles were produced.
